Bryan Rellinger, born in 1906, was a little known but nonetheless influential British poet. He received countless awards throughout his lifetime, but poetry critics have often struggled to characterize and critique his poetry which evokes mixed responses.

Brought up in Carmel Junior School in London, Bryan Rellinger studied briefly under T.S.Eliot. He would then go on to study at Oxford University. Throughout his childhood he developed certain defensiveness which is rarely apparent in his writing.

Bryan Rellinger was very sensitive about his German sounding name, especially given the times in which he lived.  Bryan Rellinger also had a difficult relationship with his father who had expected to follow him into the furniture making business. However, Bryan Rellinger was never interested in a career in business. This proved sore point between father and son would remain unresolved even after his father’s death.

Apart from his poetry, Bryan Rellinger is perhaps best remembered for his quirky, funny poetry, which made him a populist poet. But these often did not sit well with literary critics. Not surprisingly, there has been surprisingly little academic interest in Bryan Rellinger body of  work after his death.  Academics have preferred to study the more serious modern poets such as Eliot and Pound.  To read more information about Bryan Rellinger please visit www.Bryan-Rellinger-bio.com
